Bookstores and Book Readings
A nice little article in the New York Times about a very cool part of the country. I love going to book readings at a nice little bookstore. Growing up in Vermont there used to be a really cool little bookstore only a few towns over and it often hosted readings or other special events. Unfortunately the store could not maintain enough business in competition with national chains like Barnes and Noble and Borders and online sales like Amazon.com. I have thought for a long time that it would be great (actually next to ideal) to own my own bookstore/cafe/brewery but I am strongly intimidated by the big companies (the above listed) and how difficult it seems for bookstores to keep up business and be able to pay bills. Still I’d rather spend a little extra at a nice small bookstore any day, they just have great atmospheres and generally the people working at them really do love books. If anybody knows of any cool bookstores and good book readings going on anywhere leave a comment I’d love to hear about them. As I’ve said many a times now, I like books, books are good.
